Fly Fishing and Conservation Programs and Public Speaking

I owe so much to Yellowstone country. It gives me pleasure living, working and experiencing everything it has given me and friends over the years. One way I give back is to make sure others have a good time learning the wonders and experiences this incredible place offers.

I love to instruct fly-fishing; how to approach and read the water, learning trout stream insects, fly patterns/fly tying and casting, and providing information on off-the-beaten-path places to fish. I’ve worked with the U.S. National Park Service, Yellowstone Forever, Crow Nation Tribe, Japanese Fly Fishers Club and others to instruct and teach fly fisher, fly fishing and more.

I enjoy teaching and showing visitors and conservation groups around the country the importance of our stream restoration and riparian protection programs, the effects of climate change in Yellowstone, successful conservation easements and wild/native trout enhancement programs and how to partner and put them together, water leases and wildlife migration corridor protection projects we’ve worked on with our partners and more.

One of the most enjoyable parts of my work has been speaking to conservation groups and clubs like the International Federation of Fly Fishers, Trout Unlimited clubs nationwide, 1% for the Planet events, presenting programs to colleges like Coe College and the University of Iowa and NACTA (North American College and Teachers of Ag) to list a few.

I’ve always felt our future is not a just a gift but an achievement, and we cannot sit still with our hands in our pockets. It’s said, in the end we will conserve only what we love, we will love only what we understand and we will understand only what we are taught.

Please contact me for details and availability on my programs, instruction, and public speaking.

Tying flies is an art of fly fishing.

Learning the entomology and creating flies for each fishing scenario is important to understanding the complexity of there existence. Below Craig is tying flies for a shop in West Yellowstone, MT.

With the right flies, you will find trout the size of your leg…
